Discover your inner artist with Sali

We are very happy to introduce Sali García de Araoz, a local artist who specialises in silk painting, acrylic painting, creative furniture restoration and art with repurposed materials. Her works convey the bright and intense colours so typical of the Spanish Mediterranean coast, and her subjects are very much of the local area including the towns, coasts and landscapes. We are especially fond of the depictions of the Millenary Olive trees so characteristic of the Maestrat.

Here at Casa de Olivos we are showcasing some of Sali’s works in the guest apartments and offering artists the opportunity to combine their holiday with an art tutorial or workshop. The workshops can focus on drawing, painting, bottle decoration, glass jars or ceramic modelling.

Workshops are tailored to suit all abilities and ages.

Groups from one to four people - €100 including materials.

For groups of 5 or more, add €20 per person up to a maximum group of 8.

Workshops last two hours and are available in Sali's studios

in Benicarlo or Sant Jordi, or on location by special request.

Availability is limited so please book your space as early as possible

if this is a vital element of your Casa de Olivos holiday experience.

  • Who is Sali Garcia de Araoz?

Heres’ Sali introducing herself in her own words:

I am an artist from Benicarló, a coastal town in Castellón. That is why I have the essence of the Mediterranean coursing through my being, having grown up in a house in front of the sea where I observed its changes of colour and aroma of the sea. I capture it in the maritime themes with their ranges of blues and the brightness of the sun over the water, and in the landscapes of the interior in the paintings of trees or streets in towns.

The millennial olive trees, for example, inspire me a lot because they are a natural monument, every shape, fold and twist is unique, they are a living work of art.

Another thing that also inspires me is to do a colourful painting from an old black and white photo perhaps from the streets of Benicarló, Vinaros, or Peñíscola...

If I had to define myself in one word it would be creative, and in two words creative and colourful. I love combining colours, and above all, taking the light from the Levante in my works, both in the seascape and landscape themes. And creative because everything I come across I imagine how to transform it and give it a second life - like wood, antique furniture, bottles... For me to give color and transform an object is something magical and very rewarding.

I studied at an art school in Barcelona called Escola Massana with a specialty in design of

prints. When I graduated I had a workshop in Barcelona with a partner where we painted on silk and had commissions for both silk paintings and silk scarves.

Over the years I returned to live in Benicarló and that was when I began to paint my works of the Maestrazgo. I have made exhibitions in various places and museums in Barcelona, Benicarló, Vinaros, Sant Mateu, Peniscola, Castellon...

I also participate in art fairs such as Sant Jordi, Cálig, Benicarló, Forcall...

Creative furniture restoration is also something I love to do. I transform the wood, sanding it, painting it, making each piece unique.

I have an art school where I teach painting, drawing and ceramics in Benicarló. In these,

apart from learning pictorial and artistic techniques in general, I encourage students to be creative, leaving them free to create.

In Sant Jordi I have a small house that I have transformed with decorated furniture where I have my studio where I go to paint, and the tranquility that is there helps me to get inspired. I can also teach my works there.

I can make paintings and artistic restorations on request with an idea or photo for

inspire me or I propose an idea.
