Cycling at Casa de Olivos
Quiet Roads, Big Landscapes & Comfort to Come Home To
Casa de Olivos is not a typical cycling stop-over — and that’s exactly the point.
We’re a peaceful, premium rural retreat for guests who enjoy cycling
as part of a slower, more considered holiday, rather than a place to simply sleep and ride on.
Set among working olive groves in the Castellón countryside, our location offers quiet back roads, mountain routes and off-road trails — while returning riders come back to space, privacy, a saltwater pool and beautifully tended gardens. It’s an ideal base for cyclists travelling with a partner or friends who may not ride every day, allowing everyone to enjoy the villa in their own way, without compromise or guilt.
Sustainability is woven into everything we do at Casa de Olivos. As an off-grid, eco-focused retreat, we naturally appeal to cyclists who value low-impact travel, rural heritage and responsible tourism — where time outdoors, local landscapes and thoughtful comfort matter more than ticking off miles.
Whether you’re heading out for a morning ride through olive country, exploring the BTT trails around Traiguera, or simply enjoying the freedom of open roads before a long lunch and a swim, cycling here fits effortlessly into the Casa de Olivos way of life.
Cycling from the Door
Casa de Olivos is proud to be part of Valencian Community Creaturisme Cycling and Castellón Cycling, and to offer truly cycling–friendly accommodation — from secure bike storage and a workshop area to routes straight outside the gate.
From Casa de Olivos, cyclists can head straight out onto
quiet rural lanes and agricultural tracks that wind through working olive groves, almond trees and open countryside. These routes are lightly trafficked and ideal for relaxed rides, warm-ups or longer exploratory days linking nearby villages.

Off-Road & Mountain Biking
BTT 100k Traiguera & IMBA-Certified Routes
If you enjoy off-road riding, you’re in a very special spot. The Traiguera BTT 100k network is right on your doorstep, with trails that are as enjoyable for walkers as they are for mountain bike riders.
- Route 6 (16 km, medium) — begins near Casa de Olivos and offers a balanced loop through olive groves, farmland and heritage tracks.
- Five more certified BTT trails — ranging from easy to challenging, distances between roughly 7 km and 33 km.
- MTB GranTour (172 km) — a long, spectacular route that crosses the Maestrat region between coast and mountains, perfect for multi-day adventures or gravel bike exploration.
These trails take you past dry stone buildings, ancient olive trees, almond groves and ravines with views to the Mediterranean. Many sections are quiet, scenic and ideal for independent exploration.
Many guests enjoy:
- Medium-length loops for half-day rides
- Linking sections of different routes for longer days
- Combining riding with village stops and café breaks
This network is also popular with gravel riders looking for mixed surfaces and wide tracks rather than technical singletrack.
Detailed maps and GPX/Wikiloc tracks are available on the Traiguera website, with links and descritions for each BTT 100k trail to help you plan your cycling routes.
Gravel Riding & Rural Exploration
Beyond the marked BTT routes, the countryside around Casa de Olivos offers extensive gravel riding opportunities along historic tracks, farm roads and long-distance rural paths.
These routes allow cyclists to explore deeper into the Maestrat landscape, linking villages, hill viewpoints and cultural sites at their own pace. Many follow long-established routes used for centuries, giving rides a strong sense of place and history.
Gravel riding here is characterised by:
- Open landscapes and wide skies
- Low traffic and peaceful surroundings
- Flexible routes that can be shortened or extended easily
Cycling in Natural Parks
For riders seeking bigger scenery and wilder terrain, several protected natural areas are within easy reach:
Tinença de Benifassà Natural Park
North of Casa de Olivos, this mountain wilderness offers signposted trails linking seven villages — Bel, Ballestar, Boixar, Castell de Cabres, Coratxà, Fredes and La Pobla de Benifassà. Cycling through these hills rewards you with lush, forested landscapes and challenging elevation on both gravel and road.
Serra d’Irta Natural Park
South toward the coast, the rugged Serra d’Irta combines mountain terrain with views out over the sea. Gravel, dirt and mixed-surface paths here deliver a truly wild ride between Peñíscola and Alcossebre.
Both parks are rich in wildlife and scenery, giving cyclists a real sense of space and adventure.
Road Cycling – Quiet Roads & Open Views
For road riders, this area of northern Castellón is a gem:
- Quiet country roads linking villages and nature
- Challenging climbs with rewarding descents
- Sea views within 15 km of Casa de Olivos
Some classic climbs and routes include:
- Puerto de Querol towards Morella — a strong ascent over rolling terrain
- Mont Caro in the Tinença de Benifassà area — substantial mountain effort
- Mirador de Vallibona — panoramic climb with lighter road traffic
Elsewhere, long sweeping roads connect small towns and past traditional squares where you can pause for rest or refreshments before continuing your ride. With the coast so close, it’s easy to mix inland hills with sea-facing roads for mixed terrain days.
Practical Support for Cyclists
Casa de Olivos is well set up for cycling holidays:
- Secure bike storage on site
- Space for basic maintenance and cleaning
- Local bike shop and repair services in Traiguera
- E-bike and bike hire available locally in Vinaròs
(ideal if you’re travelling without your own bike)
After a ride, guests love unwinding by the
salt-water pool, enjoying the gardens or booking a
sports massage for recovery.
A Flexible Base for Cycling Holidays
Casa de Olivos offers a flexible base for cycling holidays that go beyond the ride itself. Here, cycling fits naturally into days shaped by space, comfort and choice — whether that means an early morning loop through olive country, a longer mountain route, or simply deciding to rest while your partner heads out. With quiet surroundings, sustainable living, and the luxury of returning to calm rather than crowds, Casa de Olivos is a place where cyclists — and non-cyclists alike — feel equally at home.
