Natural Parks & Mountain Landscapes
Wild Spain on Our Doorstep
Casa de Olivos is perfectly placed for guests who love walking, wildlife and wide-open landscapes. Within easy reach of the coast, yet surrounded by working olive groves and open countryside, our location offers access to some of the most beautiful and least crowded natural parks in eastern Spain.
From coastal mountains that tumble into the Mediterranean, to remote inland valleys rich in wildlife, this is a destination made for nature lovers, hikers and anyone seeking space, silence and fresh air.
Parc Natural de la Serra d’Irta
Mountains Meeting the Sea
Located just south of Peñíscola, the Serra d’Irta Natural Park is one of the most striking landscapes on the Costa del Azahar. Here, rugged mountains plunge directly into the sea, broken by hidden coves and deserted bays.
The park is a protected reserve of pure nature, home to small game, migratory birds and rich plant life. Scattered throughout the hills are archaeological remains and historic ruins, including the Moorish Castles of Alcalà and Santa Magdalena de Pulpis. From the Castle of Alcalà, walkers are rewarded with breathtaking views across the Mediterranean coastline.
This park is ideal for coastal hikes, mountain walks and peaceful exploration away from busy resorts.
Parc Natural de la Tinença de Benifassà
Wild, Remote and Remarkably Preserved
In the opposite direction from the coast lies the Tinença de Benifassà Natural Park, stretching between the Els Ports and El Baix Maestrat regions of Castellón. This mountainous area, once owned by the Benifassà Monastery, is one of the most ecologically rich and well-preserved landscapes in the region.
Wildlife here includes Spanish ibex, wild boar, vultures, Bonelli’s eagle and booted eagle. A well-maintained network of signposted hiking routes allows visitors to explore forests, valleys and high ridges at their own pace.
Nearby, the Ulldecona Reservoir offers gentler walking routes and scenic viewpoints, with opportunities for light water sports in a calm, natural setting.
Delta de l’Ebre Natural Park
Wetlands, Wildlife and Wide Horizons
A little further north, the Delta de l’Ebre Natural Park offers a completely different natural experience. One of the most important wetland ecosystems in Europe, the delta is a paradise for birdwatchers and nature photographers.
At La Bassa de les Olles, the smallest lagoon in the park, rice fields, dunes and shallow waters create a unique habitat. Flamingos, royal ducks, kingfishers and many other species can be seen here throughout the year. The area is easily explored from the coastal town of L’Ampolla, making it a rewarding day trip from Casa de Olivos.
Nature at Casa de Olivos
A Landscape to Slow Down In
Even without leaving Casa de Olivos, guests are surrounded by natural beauty. Our gardens sit within ancient olive groves in a working agricultural landscape, rich in birdlife and seasonal activity. The changing rhythms of the countryside — pruning, harvesting and cultivation — are part of the authentic rural experience here.
Many guests comment on the sense of calm, space and connection to nature that comes from simply being here.
